During the conceptual design phase of the competition, I was tasked with developing the visual representation of the project and the house's "character." In order to appropriately depict multi-generational domesticity in D.O.T.T.I.E.'s architectural language, digital collaging of the expressionist style was used to evoke a sense of timeless nostalgia and familiarity. With digital collaging techniques, spatial and generational relationships could be explored without the burden of hyper-realism.
What follows is a series of digital compositions that played with material, whimsy, and character by testing key spatial and dualistic concepts such as barriers-and-thresholds, old-and-new, and inside-outside.
